Special Grand Opening Entry!

Well. This is it. My new site and new domain are officially open for business. So, I wanted to do something in celebration of the new pad. And while contests and prizes are all the rage, I thought I would give you something else instead.

Pictures.

And not just any pictures.

Hair pictures.

You see, this is my answer to the all the Katie Couric / Kathy Lee montages of hair styles. And while what I'm laying on you here may be a little painful to view, just realize... if *I* can laugh at it, so can you.

Funny Moods dot Com:
A Study in Hair

It all starts quite innocently, you know. Doesn't it always. I was a cute little baby (weren't we all). But when my hair got a little difficult to deal with for my dear mom, she cut it off.

how can a 5 year old have such a terrible haircut?
1977

Even at 5, I knew this was bad, bad hair and I made my mother swear not to cut it again.

And we made good progress, by 8-years-old I got to wear the cute little pigtails that were all the rage.

I was particularly proud of this picture with my awesome Izod turtleneck and striped Garfield belt (ala Mork & Mindy). This was the hair I loved and worked for. I was quite the fashion plate for the 2nd grade.

But some black hair days did follow. I cut my bangs myself a few times (no, I didn't learn from the first experience!) and I had the Dorothy Hamill for a while. But by junior high, I was becoming an adult. I needed mature hair.

Mature hair that required a curling iron and Aqua Net. Ahh... the teenage years were arriving.

Every good Lutheran girl sported a mullet in my day

See that? That's my first mullet. It was my cool 8th grade hair and I loved it. I even used Dep gel on the sides which would get all hard and crunchy. I thought I rocked in this picture which was taken for my Confirmation from the Lutheran church.

But I didn't stop there. We were reaching the peak of 80s fashion and I had to get what every 80s girl needed:

A Perm.

Oh, I was such a cutie. Every three or four months, I'd get a fresh perm and I became intimately familiar with the "pick" because, you know, you couldn't brush these locks out (they'd get frizzy)!

And this perm, unfortunately, stayed with me for many, MANY years....

Currently reading:
Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates, Tom Robbins
Book Club selection

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, JK Rowling
To refresh my memory for the movie!

Black Hawk Down, Mark Bowden
I don't read nearly enough about war, the military or history in general. I thought this would be interesting, however, considering the current situation.

Clara, the Early Years, Margo Kaufman
I'm about to give up on this one.

Just finished:
White Teeth, Zadie Smith
Good -- but was difficult for me to claw through.

Grand Opening , John Hassler
I didn't think I'd like this book. It was for book club. But I ended up LOVING it. It's about a family that moves to a small town and is more real than nostalgic.
