Love and Hate

What I love:
Lex. Beautiful Lex of Survivor. You fill my Thursday evenings with pleasure. The minute I see your tattoos, I melt. You're so edgy and cool and yet levelheaded and sane all at the same time. I hope you win the whole thing. And then come share it with me. I love you. I really do. And the fact that we share the same birthday (June 18th -- no lie!) means only one thing. You. Me. Fate.

What I hate:
Eating too much. Eating too much even when it's healthy and good for you and completely vegetarian. Damn you, Tandoor Restaurant. Damn you, Naan Bread. And the fact that I almost set the restaurant ablaze doesn't help either. Seriously, I almost did. When I went to grab some naan in the heated thing with the cloth napkin covering it, I must have got it too close to the heat source because the next thing I knew, the napkin started on fire. Fire! I tried to pat it out... but to no avail. My coworker came to my assistance and started blowing on it, but the fire only got bigger. I panicked the ran to the waiter, but I don't think he knew what I was saying He answered the phone instead. Luckily a fellow diner came by and saved us by rolling the napkin up (literally touching the fire) and putting it out. He (yes, HE) fixed it all. Why is it guys who always save my ass?

What I love:
Listening to Jazz from Smoke online while I work.

What I hate:
Listening to annoying cubemates whistle while attempting to listen to jazz online while I work.

What I love:
Harry Potter and the fact that I'm going to see his glorious movie next weekend complete with Any Flavor Beans and Chocolate Frogs.

What I hate:
Sitting in a theatre full of children who don't know how to keep their mouths shut, feet off the chairs and popcorn to themselves. And, um, Moms: No, it won't be interesting to your 1-year-olds so please leave them at home.

What I love:
The exhilaration of running a long distance, breathing in the fresh air and the buzz I get from such cardio work. I feel powerful and graceful and fit and strong.

What I hate:
The fact that running is so damn hard. Why can't running be easy? Like eating. Eating is easy. Why can't running be like eating?

What I love:
Getting together with girlfriends like I am tomorrow to make candles. We'll shop, each lunch, craft and hang out.

What I hate:
Vaguely sounding like a Martha Stewart wanna-be. Really, I'm not.

What I love:
Coffee

What I hate:
Bad Breath. From Coffee.

What I love:
James working. Even if it is a low-level job that pays squat. He's happy. Has a life outside the home. Something to talk about other than work.

What I hate:
Getting the "It's a newspaper!" or "It's deadline!" or "I have a story to write!" line every freakin' single time I call and want to talk or make plans to do anything that remotely resembles a social life.

What I love:
This wonderful unseasonably warm November weather we've been having. It's been so unusual to go outside at 6 am when it's still dark and run in only a t-shirt and tights! It's Minnesota. It's November. It's supposed to be cold! I even drove to work today with my sunroof open. So completely unnatural. And great.

What I hate:
That due to this wonderfully warm weather, I can't wear any of my hip and trendy winter clothes including the ever-so-flattering turtlenecks and boots. What WILL I wear to the bar tonight?

What I love:
Writing in my journal.

What I hate:
Resorting to a cliché love-hate list when I can't think of anything better to say.

Currently reading:
Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates, Tom Robbins
Book Club selection

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, JK Rowling
To refresh my memory for the movie!

Black Hawk Down, Mark Bowden
I don't read nearly enough about war, the military or history in general. I thought this would be interesting, however, considering the current situation.

Clara, the Early Years, Margo Kaufman
I'm about to give up on this one.

Just finished:
White Teeth, Zadie Smith
Good -- but was difficult for me to claw through.

Grand Opening , John Hassler
I didn't think I'd like this book. It was for book club. But I ended up LOVING it. It's about a family that moves to a small town and is more real than nostalgic.
