Crazy Morning
So, I’m at the bus stop this morning. I’m actually there early (7am) because I want to get a jump-start on the week and, as I’m standing there, this Saturn drives by and honks. Since I’m in my neighborhood, I kind of wave. I don’t recognize the car — but I figure I should be friendly. I know a lot of my neighbors.
But then the car pulls over (right on Arcade Street — which is busy!). I stand there, not sure what to think. I still don’t recognize the car. Then I see the reverse-lights turn on and the car starts backing up towards me!!! At first, I try to ignore it, but then I start thinking, “Maybe I do know this person. I don’t want to be a bitch.” I walk a few steps towards the car. The windows rolls down.
Nope. I don’t know this guy at all.
“Need a ride?” says the 30-something-looking man.
“Nope. Waiting for the bus,” I say as a turn around and stare in the direction my bus should be coming from.
He zips off and I’m all, “dude — WHAT was that?”
Did he want to drive me to work?
Did he think I was a working girl?

I never lose my appetite…
Even WHEN I’m sick. Sure, what I crave changes, but I usually indulge in cereal or soup.
Not today. I seemed to have contracted some viral nastiness that started last night after hydrotraining class. I can barely get down orange juice and a banana now, 24 hours later. I was up all night. I stayed home from work and attempted to sleep all day. And the not-being-able to eat thing is really bothering me I know my headache and fatigue are worse considering I haven’t had enough calories all day. So, I’m just lying here, hoping my appetite will return because I must return to work tomorrow.
So much for an 11 hour training week. And to think, last night during hydrotraining class, I was comprising an entry in my head about how much I love that class. Now exercise is the last thing on my mind.

So, I signed up for the new Monthly Pass. I would be lying if I didn’t admit I was inspired by both Nicole

and Erin Dead Birds trailer to do so. And while I’m psyched about the cheaper weekly rate and the access to the online tools (thank you, WW, for letting us meeting goers access the tools), I had a sad reminder yesterday as I logged in my weight (which, yes, is up) into the little admin. The reminder? A sad face.

Nothing like that to remind you that you’ve taken a step back. And, golly gee, it’s not like I’ve gained a lot of weight! Just a couple of pounds over the summer….
But man, he made me feel like crap. Even with Ms. Eleanor’s quote right beside him.
Apparently, I have work to do.

Life is just, eeehh. I don’t feel like I have time. I don’t feel like I’m in a routine. And obviously I haven’t felt like blogging. I’m going to bed now — I have an early morning date with my bike and a Velo Bella.

30 before 7am
I completed 30 miles on my bike this morning before work and it made me feel like a rockstar. Originally, I was going to bike when I got home last night. But after getting up at 4:30am for a swim and run and then working all day, the last thing I really wanted to do was ride — especially since I didn’t get home until close to 7pm thanks to my wonderful new commute. Instead, I opted for beer and pizza. And we wonder why I have yet to get back to my WW goal weight.
Ahem. Anway…
So, I got up at 4:30 again this morning and I was on the road by 5am. The sun was just starting to rise and it was absolutely beautiful. The plan was to do my usual 27 mile loop around White Bear Lake. But then I got worried about time. So, when I got 10 miles into the ride, I decided to take what I thought would be a shortcut. Dumb me thought the Gateway trail hooked up to Highway 96 right outside of White Bear Lake township. Therefore, I headed down that way to find it. Only, I kept riding and riding and riding and soon it was very apparent that the Gateway was further off than I’d expected. And when I reached the 15 mile mark away-from-home, I had no other choice but to turn around. I knew the Gateway would no longer be a shortcut and I risked making my ride even longer. By turning around, I assured myself that at least I’d go no more than 30 miles. But after trying to shorten the original 27-mile loop, this was all quite comical.
That said, I’m glad I got in the mileage and the countryside was stunning at that hour of the day. In fact, I got to pass a deer on the side of the road. He/she was a mere 10 feet from me and lovely. And
I got to see him/her again on the ride back. Priceless, that.
The entire ride took me 1 hour and 47 minutes. I averaged 16.8 mph. And I felt great. Getting up at 4:30 was so worth the initial pain.
That said, I’m ready to crash now. Unfortunately, I have a swim lesson tonight at 8:30. Bah.
We’ll see how it goes…

Why did I look?
It’s been a fairly pleasant day. Despite the cool weather, I rode my bike out to packet pick-up, shared lunch at Woullet with the husband, came home to run some errands. Uneventful Saturday. We were just coming home from Whole Foods and a trip to Grand Performance to pick up my new helmet when we took Snelling home in an effort to avoid the mess that is eastbound 94. As we approached the intersection at 94, there was a slight backup and soon the understanding that a terrible accident had just occurred minutes before we arrived. There were cars parked in the intersection. There was a man lying on the concrete. A car resting, crashed into the fence. A snarled car still in the middle of the intersection. We sat behind the pile-up of cars while obvious witnesses climbed out of their cars in an effort to assist and also be available for authories. Soon police cars were on the scene, a traffic cop took control and starting threading cars through the mess. And as we passed the snarled car, I looked.
I wish I hadn’t. I supposed it’s human curiousity that I did. But the site I saw is inexpressible and something I wish I could wipe from my mind.
I just found a story about the accident online Good Dick divx
. Apparently, the car in the fence had run the red light at approx. 60-65 mph. 8 people were injured, two were killed (including a child) who were in the vehicle we passed.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved. Such a cruel reminder of the awesome power of the vehicles we drive.
