For a girl who thought she had nothing much to do this weekend other than attend her bike team book club and spectate the Twin Cities marathon, suddenly things have changed and she’s found herself getting the opportunity to borrow and try out a buddy’s Orbea Orca

I don’t know what it is with me and “logging” — but if it’s on the computer and you can log it, I’ll try it. I may not follow through and be consistent (see my Fitday food log), but I’ll sign up and give it a whirl. So, if Fitday (which I haven’t been using lately) and WW e-tools (which I have been using somewhat more consistently) aren’t enough, now I’ve discovered TriFuel
. Sure, I knew of the site. But I’d never explored the training logs.
DIG. THEM.
And, you can make them PUBLIC.
So, there you go. Yet another online log that I can get totally jazzed about only to leave vacant in a month or so….
Seriously, though. I do want to try bugger out. The reason I looked at it in the first place is that, for quite some time, I’ve had a separate training blog for just my workout specs. Typically, in the summers, when I’m on a more formal triathlon training schedule, I’ll jump to my excel sheet. But now that triathlon season is over, I was considering jumping back on the Training blog and that seemed a little clumsy considering I’ve streamlined my blogs here on WordPress. So, I’m going to give this TriFuel thing a go for a while. The hope is that I won’t abandon it in a few weeks, but you never know.
That said, if you check it out, you’ll see that I had a very nice pace run this morning. It was freaking cool outside (39 degrees), but I averaged just over a 9-minute mile. Good times.George of the Jungle ipod

I finally read Ariel’s report of Ironman Wisconsin.
She finished with an awesome time and her report is amazing. I always feel a little tie to this race having grown up around Madison and now, especially, after having run my first marathon there. I also love to bike in the area and know well the hills of which the IMMoo competitors speak (I LOVE riding those hills). But it’s a grueling race and I find reports like Ariel’s so very inspiring.

I feel really good today. I went to my first Spin class in months. As a rule of thumb, I try not to spin in the summer when I can be outside on my bike instead. But the weather has turned cooler. The nights are shorter. The mornings are dark and considering the 45 degree temps outside, I figured this morning was just as good as any to return to class.
Returning was funny. I had forgotten what a community James has fostered with his students and returning to class was like returning to school after summer vacation. I had greetings and welcome backs. It was so friendly that I don’t even want to make a snarky remark about why were these kids going to class throughout the summer anyway….
The truth was, class was good. I worked hard. I think James played one of my favorite mixes on purpose (surprise, surprise — one I created for him). And I had a really, really good workout.
Better yet? After class and a shower, I just walked my butt a block down the street to catch the express bus to downtown Minneapolis. This turned out way more convenient than I’d even expected it to be. While I’ve been taking the bus to and from home, I’d yet to attempt a bus ride with my “bag ‘o gym crap”. I was slightly worried about fitting and lugging make-up, a straight iron, cycling shoes and other accoutrements from city to city. But armed with a new bag from Target
and slimmed down contents, the bag was easy and I listened to a triathlon podcast all the way into work.
To make my day even better, I met with Sascha

Yes, I’m digging working downtown. And I’m digging the fact that I’m falling back into a routine. After a few months of chaos, this feels good — kind of like returning home after a crazy, long trip.Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane dvdrip Let It Ride movie

Today: James and I celebrated number #12.
I can’t believe it was 1994. But that was the year. And we’re still married today.
We celebrated with an late morning/mid afternoon bike ride (can you say headwind?) and then dinner at Zander download Maximum Overdrive dvd
and gourmet cheeses and wine even later.
Life is good.
Over the weekend, there was also a painless (yeah!) 9 mile run, brunch with friends, dinner with more friends, cuddling with doggies. I love a good weekend.

I don’t have much time to type tonight and you’ll have to wait for the Texas photos. But in the meantime, here’s a recent shot from an 80 mile ride in Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago. Honestly, I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday. Please tell me winter isn’t coming…
+ + +
I did take my first Yoga class over noon today at the downtown Minneapolis club. I haven’t updated this news — but my job relocated to downtown last week (a few days before our trip) and I’ve been adjusting to life taking the bus and being downtown. So far, I like it with the exception that our new space isn’t finished so there is still construction going on which makes the air a little dusty. Oh, and no air conditioning kind of sucks when it’s hot out. But it’s nice to be in the center of things. It’s even nicer not to drive to work (I’m getting so much reading done already). And now that Lifetime Fitness (even though I do still hate them as a corporation) purchased Northwest Athletic Clubs, I now have a club just two blocks from my office at the Target Center. Today it took me less than 5 minutes to go to a Yoga class over lunch.
AND the class was good.
So, interesting things are happening. And as soon as things slow down a bit, I’ll post some more.Vexille download
Nice Little Run
I’ve waived the white flag. Due to an overtraining injury in my left leg, I’m nixing the October marathon. It pains me to do it. I really want to finish a Fall marathon. But I also want to be smart. And although my cardio fitness is there, the rest of my body is not and healing is much more important than crossing some line at a sub-4:48:00 finish.
I am, however, planning on doing the half marathon that very same day. And even that is in the air in my leg doesn’t agree. If I continue to have problems, then a weekend away cheering on my buddies running will suffice.
That said, I’ve had a number of successful runs since I made the decision a week or so ago. I’ve severly cut my mileage and early, last week I even had to walk at the end of a 5-miler. But, for the most part, things have been okay. I’ve been stretching, icing, taking ibuprofen and stopping if I felt pain. Then, this morning, I had my fastest run in months.
It was a spontaneous, unstructured tempo run. I went out on my regular 5.3 mile route. I ran the first mile as a warm up, the second mile upped the pace until I hit the lower 140s. On the third mile, I increased the pace even more to the upper 140s and, for the fourth mile, I maxxed out the pace in the 150s. At mile 4, I even saw 162 before I slowed down for the final recovery mile. When all was said and done, I ran 5. 3 miles in 46:38 — a PR for that training route (avg. 8:47/mile pace).
So even though I may not be completing my intended Fall goal, I still walked into work this morning with a sense of pride. A good run will do that for you.

Hey Ya’ll.
I didn’t warn and it came up so fast, but James and I just returned from five days visiting family in Fort Worth, Texas.
And while I wish I could come back with awesome tales of training and athleticism, the truth is: we were lazy. We drank. We ate. We spent a great amount of time on James’ dad’s boat on Lake Texoma. There was some swimming. And, yes, one 6-mile run. But the rest was about relaxation, time with family and long-horned steers.
I’ll post photos soon. And it’s back to training now, that’s for sure. This girl needs some exercise…
