The new season of The Biggest Loser is on and I’m not ashamed to admit I watch. I watched it when it started. I’m watching in now. And, no matter what, I find each season inspiring — even if I sit watching it with a glass of wine in one hand and a laptop in the other.

[Warning: spoiler ahead]

This season is full of amazing stories already. Jerry, who just got voted off, already looks like a million bucks. But do you know what I come away with each and every week?

Bob is hot.

I love Bob.

His tattoos. The way he rocks the spin bike. The way he gets all emotional with his team.

Yep. Bob is hot.

Reclaiming food and fitness

So, this weekend was a good one for me. It was a big step in my reclamation of the small things that I’ve let slip from habit. After a summer of working too much and what free-time I had devoted to half-iron training, it was nice to spend a weekend catching up and doing small pleasurable things such as going to the farmer’s market and spending a Saturday riding bikes.

We went down to Prescott on Saturday morning and did 70 miles of hills with our Colorado travel-mates. The fall colors were just beginning to show and the 70-degree temps were absolutely perfect for the ride. We turned around in Maiden Rock, but not before putting down Cherry Jammers (nummy biscuit dough filled with cherry pie filling) and Pumpkin Pie at the Smiling Pelican Bake Shop.

After the ride, we attended the Metro Magazine event in downtown St. Paul for the inaugural issue of the Metro 100. The plaza was full of beautiful people in severely fashionable attire. I felt a bit older and I certainly wasn’t dressed to the extent as most of the attendees, but was comfortable enough to drink a few cocktails and enjoy the appetizers while people-watching like nobody’s business.

Sunday morning was leisurely. James and I hit the farmers market — something we have not done all summer. The sad thing is, those Sat or Sun morning trips to the St. Paul Farmer’s market is one of my absolute favorite things to do. But life was just so crazy this year (and this summer) and the shopping excursions just never happened.

We picked up tons of veggies, herbs, tomatoes, flowers. We ate a casual breakfast on the patio at the Black Dog and just relaxed in the moment. That afternoon was then spent just cleaning house, cooking, relaxing. I made rosemary lemonade with both fresh rosemary and lemons. James fixed a fabulous slow-roasted tomato tapanade, chicken with a lovely mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes and parsnips. It felt good to just relish the food.

In addition to the cooking, I also made a pact with myself that I would get back to AM workouts. Late nights due to work and hectic schedules have taken a toll on my ability to hit the gym at 6am. I’ve felt lethargic and frumpy and I know that getting back to my old routine will work wonders.

So, I’m going to make it happen.

Who know, maybe I can even start counting points again — but let’s not get too excited…

It will probably be one of the memorable anniversaries we’ve had. James and I celebrated number 13 yesterday. We were married back on Sept. 17, 1994. And we’ve hit a real milestone because we’ve now been married longer than either of our parents were. It feels like a big deal – especially considering we got married at the ripe ages of 22 and 23. We’ve both changed so much in the past 13 years and were lucky we’ve done so in complimentary ways.

I suppose it,s only fitting that we spent last night installing a toilet. How’s that for a romantic celebration of our union? Actually, James and a neighbor did the actual installation and I just made sure that everyone had enough food and beer. The other wife, her two adorable girls and I just hung out while the boys installed the one and only pot in our house. Certainly was a necessary event. And on such a momentous occasion. ;)

Confession: I didn’t make my yoga date this morning. And a day full of meetings and obligations and a late bus ride home find me exhausted and un-stretched. My best bet at this point is to just go to bed and get up in the morning.

The good news is that I finally downloaded these two free podcast workouts that I received an email about a few weeks ago. It was in a PowerBar email and the workouts were created by Chris Carmichael (of Carmichael Training Systems) and Lance Armstrong. There is both a running interval workout and a running tempo interval workout. Here’s the link:

http://www.powerbar.com/PartnersEvents/LanceAudioWorkouts/Index.aspx

Hopefully, they don’t suck. :)

If you’re interested, they are free through November. And I’ll try and post my thoughts. I’m going to attempt the interval run in the morning.

In other news, I did finally replace my heart rate monitor. I didn’t manage to do it prior to Turtleman (I know, still owe that race report), but I have been using it to slack on logging my training since I got one with a crazy memory that saves workout data. Of course, it should. The damn thing is gi-normous. I feel like Wonder Woman with her fancy wristbands everytime I put it on.

I got the Polar RS200 in case you care:

Hmm… I should probably product review that, too.

Now, though, I’m off to bed.

Okay. I made it out this morning. It was cool — but kind of beautiful cool. The air was so crisp, it felt refreshing and natural to just pound the pavement. I was almost able to ignore the fact that it was so dark between 5:30 and 6:30 am. Damn, I hate it when summer ends. I do love the fall running, tho

I’m going to try and repeat the good behavior with Yoga tomorrow AM pre-work.

Let’s hope I can pull myself out of bed. As nice as this weather is to run it, it’s also mighty fine sleeping weather.

Okay. I still haven’t posted my turtleman race report. In fact, I haven’t even posted this:

3rd Place
That’s right. My PLAQUE for placing third at my half-iron.

But the truth is (and I hope it’s not posting too much about work, because I don’t really consider it posting about work) I’ve been working a damn lot and the non-work related moments I’ve had to breathe have been spent (obviously) away from the computer and even (gasp!) away from training. The last thing? Not so happy about, really.

But I’ve been spending some real time thinking about how to get balance back, make my work-life work with my life-life. And this weekend was soooo what I needed because it was away from the computer, up at a cabin with 10 other stupendous people laughing harder more times than I can remember and just living in the moment. We rode our bikes. We drank nummy cocktails and ate more food than I thought 11 peopel could consume. We hung out on the boat, dipped in the moon-lit lake, played speed scrabble. Honestly, the most awesome time imaginable. And it put so much into perspective. So what I needed right now.

So, the weekend is over. I’m back and it and still negotiating my work-life balance. But I feel, like finally, I’m on the right track to figuring some stuff out. I can’t live to train. But I can’t just live to work either. And when proper support is in place in both camps of my life, nothing but good stuff should be on the horizon no doubt.

I’ll be back soon. I have a revise training schedule to get in order, yo. And some old reports to post. And a marathon to fess up that I won’t be doing.

Which is okay. Really.
